Man in hospital as truck crashes into lamp post on East Lancs

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash on East Lancashire Road.[1]

Emergency services were called to East Lancashire Road at around 11.40pm on Wednesday, November 1. At the scene they found[2] that a man, in his 50s, had crashed a truck into a lamp post.

Merseyside police have confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the incident. Paramedics took the man to hospital[3], where he is receiving treatment for serious injuries. Police remain at the scene this morning, Thursday, November 2, for accident investigation work and to manage the traffic.

Road closures are in place on Liverpool Road, East Lancashire Road[6] and Millfield Lane East (Manchester bound) while emergency services attend the incident. A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "We are appealing for information following a road traffic collision yesterday evening, Wednesday 1 November, on the East Lancashire Road in Haydock.

"At around 11.40pm we received a report that a man, in his 50s, driving a truck was in collision with a lamp post. No other vehicles were involved. Paramedics took the man to hospital where he is receiving treatment.

"We ask that drivers avoid the area and find an alternative route. We thank you for your patience as we deal with this incident. Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam DM @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting reference 1134 of 1 November."
