Man found dead at popular beauty spot on Peak District border named
A 69-year-old man who died at a reservoir on the edge of the Peak District[1] was found “immersed” in the water. An inquest has been opened into the death of Christopher Wyndham – almost nine months after his body was discovered at Tittesworth Reservoir[2].
Initial investigations into Mr Wyndham’s death on February 20, 2023, suggested that he was found in the water at the beauty spot, reports Stoke On Trent Live[3]. A full inquest will now be held to try to piece together his final movements.
North Staffordshire assistant coroner Duncan Ritchie said: “This is the opening of the inquest into the death of Christopher Wyndham. Christopher was 69 years old at the time of his death. He died on February 20 at Tittesworth Reservoir[4]. His usual place of residence was Church Terrace Nursing Home, in Cheadle.
Poll: Is the government doing enough to help with the cost of living?[5]
“A post-mortem examination has been carried out. I have been given a provisional cause of death as immersion. There is reason to suspect that he died by way of drowning, therefore an inquest is necessary. I hereby open and adjourn this inquest to be held at a later date.”
West Midlands Ambulance Service[6]was called to the beauty spot at 4.12pm on February 20. An ambulance service spokesman said: “We were called to a medical incident at Tittesworth Reservoir.
“An ambulance, a paramedic officer, and a BASICS doctor were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered one male patient. He received advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
