Man fighting for life in hospital after five ‘flee’ horror crash

A man has been rushed to hospital in Birmingham with a potentially "life-threatening spinal injury" after a horror crash that saw five people allegedly flee the scene. The serious collision, on Saturday night, involved three cars - two BMWs and one Vauxhall Corsa.

Police said that five people believed to have been in one of the cars allegedly ran off from the scene. The driver of the Corsa is currently being assessed by trauma surgeons at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital,[1] while three other people who were left seriously injured were blue-lit to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Three men have been arrested, but West Mercia Police is appealing for anyone with dashcam footage or witnesses that can help with enquiries. The horror crash took place last night, November 11, in Shrewsbury.

Releasing an update on Sunday November 12, a West Mercia Police[4] spokesperson said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision involving three vehicles on Whitchurch Road in Shrewsbury at 7.40pm last night (Saturday 11 November).

"The collision involved a blue BMW 120 on an ‘05’ plate, allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road, a white Vauxhall Corsa, and a blue BMW 125 on a ‘14’ plate.

"There are believed to have been five occupants of one of the cars who allegedly ran off from the scene. The male driver of the Corsa has sustained a potential life-threatening spinal injury which is currently being assessed by doctors at the QE Hospital in Birmingham.

"Three others - two men aged 63 and 64, and a woman aged 44 - were also seriously injured and were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Three men have been arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and are helping police with enquiries.

"If you have any information, dash camera footage or home security footage of the incident please could you contact West Mercia Police on 101 quoting the reference number 00436_i of November 11."
