Major road to shut overnight for ‘key part’ of project 3.5 miles away
A major road in Chelmsford will be closed overnight on Saturday in order for a "key part" of the Beaulieu Park railway station development to be carried out. Parts of Parkway will be closed overnight on Saturday (November 11) whilst the work is carried out.
The closure is needed so that the new power supply can be lifted into position near the viaduct. This is to support signally on the railway and is fundamental in the development of the new railway station 3.5 miles away in Beaulieu.
Documents shared by Essex Highways show that the closure will be for a distance of approximately 430m and 270m respectively. It will see Parkway closed from its junction with the roundabout at Victoria Road South to the junction at Coval Lane. The stretch of road between the roundabout at Victoria Road and Viaduct Road will also be closed.
Alternative routes include heading along Parkway onto Rainsford Lane, Waterhouse Lane, Westway, London Rd, Wood St Roundabout, Princes Rd, Van Diemans Rd, Army and Navy Roundabout, Parkway, roundabout at Baddow Road and then to the Victoria Road end of Parkway. Another route, from Victoria Road South, will be down Duke Street, Victoria Road, New Street, New St Roundabout, Rectory Lane, Parkway, Broomfield Road and finally Parkway.
Vicky Ford, the MP for Chelmsford, shared a statement that says: "Parts of Parkway will be closed on Saturday night from 8pm to 6am on Sunday. This is to enable the lifting of the new power supply that supports signalling on the railway. The signalling power supply is located near the viaduct.
"This new power upgrade is needed as a key part of the works to deliver Chelmsford’s second railway station at Beaulieu Park. I have asked Essex County Council to check that other roadworks in central Chelmsford are minimised on Saturday night so alternative routes are maximised."
