Major delay on Glasgow M8 motorway after road closes near airport
There are long delays on a busy stretch of the M8 motorway after a vehicle fire this morning.
The road is closed westbound at junction 28a at Glasgow Airport to 29a at the Erskine Bridge and traffic is being diverted.
It is understood the fire has been put out and the motor involved is awaiting recovery, however, the road could remain closed for some time to allow any damage to be assessed.
Traffic Scotland has warned drivers to expect delays and to follow diversion signs.
Police Scotland wrote on X: “Motorists are advised that the M8 westbound is closed between junctions 28A and 29, due to investigation and recovery work following a vehicle fire. There is a diversion in place onto the A737 westbound.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time.”
