M6 between J6 and J5

The M6 was forced to close following a collision near Gravelly Hill Interchange[1] with street furniture.

West Midlands Police[2] were called to the M6 northbound [3]carriageway near to junctions 6 (Spaghetti Junction) and J5 (Castle Bromwich) just after 2am yesterday (Wednesday, November 22) when a lorry carrying an abnormal load entered a road works restricted area and collided with a lamppost causing it to fall into the opposing carriageway.

The lamppost struck a number of vehicles causing damage and officers from the Central Motorway Policing Group[4] (CMPG) were forced to close both carriageways while the lamppost was removed. It had caused congestion and long delays.

Officers are now appealing for information as they continue to investigate the incident and to locate the vehicle involved.

No-one was injured in the incident, but police are appealing for people to contact them if they have any dashcam footage or witnessed the incident.

People with information are urged to call West Midlands Police on 101 quoting log number 0245 of 22/11/23. You can also contact them through the Live Chat function which can be found on West Midlands Police website[5]. If you'd prefer to remain anonymous you can call Crimestoppers the independent charity on 0800 555 111.
