M5 tragedy as man in his 40s dies after lorry and van crash
A man in his 40s has died after a crash on the M5. The crash happened after 8pm last night, November 27.
999 workers made desperate efforts to save the man, who was found by paramedics in a critical condition. The incident happened after a collision on the northbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 4a in Catshill, Bromsgrove.
The man was soon confirmed dead at the scene. Drivers have since been warned to expect delays in the aftermath of the tragedy, Birmingham Live reports[1]..
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Upon arrival we found a man who was the driver of the van. He was assessed and was in a critical condition.
"He received advanced life support from ambulance staff at the scene. Unfortunately, it became clear that nothing more could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.”
A West Mercia Police spokesperson added: "We were called to a two-vehicle collision involving a lorry and a van on the M5 northbound between junction 4A to junction 4 around 8.30pm yesterday evening. Sadly, a man in his 40s was pronounced deceased at the scene.
"Next of kin have been informed." Emergency roadworks have been taking place on the motorway.
There have been long delays on the route this morning. As of 11.25am, there were still two-mile delays even though the route had reopened.
National Highways said on X, formerly Twitter, at around 11am: "All lanes have now reopened on the #M5[3] northbound within J4A (#M42[4]) following the collision which occurred yesterday evening. There is still approx. 2 miles of congestion on approach, please allow extra time for the remaining delays to clear."
