John Travolta shares terrifying moment he thought he was ‘going to …
John Travolta[1] has revealed the scary moment he thought his life was about to end after a plane he was travelling in had serious problems.
The Hollywood star, 69, opened up on the mishap in the skies as he discussed the very similar plot for the Disney[2]+ short The Shepherd. The movie tells the story of a Royal Air Force pilot who suffers total electrical failure – something the Oscar winner had previously experience in real life.
The Resevoir Dogs[3] actor explained how the incident occurred while he was travelling in a corporate jet over Washington DC, and was one of the reasons he had connected with the script.

Speaking to Variety[6], the star, who has his own pilot’s license, said: “I actually experienced a total electrical failure, not in a Vampire, but in a corporate jet over Washington D.C. So when I read [Frederick Forsyth’s book of the same name], it resonated even more because of this experience I had personally had.”
He continued: “I knew what it felt like to absolutely think you’re going to die. I had two good jet engines, but I had no instruments, no electric, nothing. And I thought it was over.”
Speaking about his connection to the production, Travolta added: “There’s very few projects I’ve ever been involved with that were locked in here [his heart]. I wanted to have a destiny with it for 30 years.”

And during a Q&A alongside writer and director Iain Softle, Travolta commented how his co-star Ben Radcliffe had been able to capture the despair you feel when you’re actually going to die. “And I had my family on board and I said ‘This is it, I can’t believe I’m gonna die in this plane,'” he continued.
The film, set for streaming release on December 1, follows the story of a young Royal Air Force pilot who is flying home across the North Sea on Christmas[7] Eve but finds himself in peril when his radio and electric power cut out. The disaster leaves him stranded and running on limited fuel.
Steven Mackintosh also stars in the production.
