Incident disrupts railway between Redcar and Saltburn

All lines were blocked and services across the region have been affected.

It is understood the alarm was raised at around lunchtime.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to an incident on Marske Road, Saltburn By The Sea today (November 19) at midday.

“We dispatched three ambulance crews and one clinical team leader. One patient was taken to James Cook Hospital.”

Earlier a message on the Northern website said: “Bishop Auckland and Darlington to Saltburn services will only run between Bishop Auckland, Darlington and Redcar Central, in both directions.

“To assist customers to complete their journey, road transport has been provided between Redcar Central and Saltburn in both directions. calling at Redcar East, Longbeck, Marske and Saltburn.

“Journey times will be extended by 40 minutes whilst travelling by road transport.”

Customers on station platforms, are being asked to listen for announcements or consult Customer Information Screens for up to date train running information.

Northern Rail has released an update saying: “Trains are able to run normally between Redcar Central and Saltburn following the emergency services dealing with an incident.”
