Former mill and museum sells under the hammer at auction
A former mill and mill house that had previously been run as a museum was sold at auction. The buildings along with two other dwellings and a swimming pool in South Stour, Mersham, sold at auction for £800,000.
Swanton Mill, sits on five and a half acres of land that includes gardens, woodlands and outbuildings. It was among 137 lots listed for sale by Clive Emson, the land and property auctioneers.
Auctioneer Kevin Gilbert said: “This mill complex lies at the end of a single unmade road off South Stour Road. The Mill House has five bedrooms, the Granary has three and Swanton Cottage has two bedrooms.
“A bridge connects the mill to the indoor swimming pool which is housed in its own building. Ashford is a short distance away with its railway station and we had a great deal of interest in this lot.”
Also under the hammer was a block of eleven garages at The Paddocks, Great Chart. The freehold sold for £100,000.
The next auction by Clive Emson Auctioneers[3], the last of eight this year across southern England, takes place on December 13 with live bidding starting 48 hours before. Entries for lots close on 20 November.
