Exact dates Surrey will see travel disruption due to December rail …
Commuters and holidaymakers will face travel disruption this December as the train drivers union, Aslef announces more strike dates. A rolling programme of walkouts will mean different parts of the country will hit on different days. Surrey will see reduced services on December 6 and 7 as journeys are cancelled or reduced.
With so many train operators serving the county any strike action will likely be spread across multiple days. Southeastern, Southern/Gatwick Express and South Western Railway (mainline and depot) will be affected on Wednesday, December 6. Cross Country and Great Western Railway will be impacted the day after (December 17).
Southeastern, which serves stations like Epsom[1] and Ashford[2], have already announced that they won’t run any trains on December 6. On top of this they are unable to provide replacement buses which will have travelling even trickier.
The other operators haven’t said how they will be affected yet, but Great Western Railways have suggested many parts of their network will have no service at all. They have also indicated that in the days after the strikes there could still be some short-notice cancellations and alterations.

On top of these individual days of action, Aslef has also announced an overtime ban between December 1 and 9. In the past bans like this have meant train companies needed to publish amended or reduced timetables.
In the past 18 months the union has called 14 one day strikes as part of ongoing disputes over pay and working conditions. In explaining their new tactic Aslef said “ in the past, called everyone out on the same day; by spreading the strike action, for which members voted overwhelmingly, coupled with our ban on overtime across the week, the ramifications for the rail industry will be greater.
