Edinburgh train passengers face further disruption following …
Those commuting[1] to and from Edinburgh on Friday morning have been warned to expect further disruption.
On Thursday at around 5pm, a fault with the electricity system[2] halted all trains from Edinburgh Waverley which threw passengers into chaos. ScotRail said that while it is working as hard as possible to get systems up and running again, disruption could run into Friday.
The train operator is now urging customers to check their journeys ahead of time as a number of train cancellations are still in place this morning (November 3).
Rail lines have been re-opened but after the cancellations on Thursday, trains are out of position. Morning services between Perth and Edinburgh, which goes through Fife, and to and from Edinburgh and Inverness have been disrupted with delays and cancellations.
On ScotRail’s website, it reads: “Following on from a major signalling failure at Edinburgh Waverley last night, engineers have worked through the night and we’re able to operate trains normally to and from Edinburgh.
“Because we have some trains out of position, we have had to cancel some services and you may notice some trains are shorter than normal. We’re working hard to get these trains fully formed again.
“We still have speed restrictions in Fife and between Dundee and Edinburgh and service alterations on these routes will remain in place. If you’re planning to travel on these routes, please check your full journey.”
On Thursday people were left stranded across Scotland as trains were suddenly cancelled due to an electrical fault at Edinburgh Waverley. Buses quickly filled up and others had to fork out money for a taxi home.
ScotRail urged people to keep receipts from taxis or hotels and can claim the money back on their website[5].
