Edinburgh train passengers face fresh rush hour chaos as services …

Train passengers between West Lothian[1] and Edinburgh have been hit with cancellations on Friday morning.

Those getting ready for the morning commute have been warned to expect travel disruption following a new signalling fault. ScotRail[2] and Network Rail Scotland have taken to social media to warn of a fault with the signalling system between Edinburgh and Bathgate.

Taking to X, formally Twitter, ScotRail said: “NEW: There’s a fault with the signalling system preventing us from running trains between Edinburgh & Bathgate. Our Helensburgh – Edinburgh services are only running between Helensburgh & Bathgate in both directions. We’ve requested replacement buses, but nothing confirmed yet.”

At 8.23am, Network Rail Scotland wrote: “Sorry if you’re affected by the signalling issue we’re dealing with in the Uphall areas this morning. Technicians in the signalling centre working to fix it ASAP, and we’ve response teams on their way to Livingston North and Newbridge as a precaution too”

This comes as a number of train services to Edinburgh have been disrupted this morning, mainly on the Edinburgh – Perth line which runs through Fife. A fault with the electrical system on Thursday evening at 5pm sparked travel chaos with all trains from Edinburgh Waverley were cancelled.

The disruption from Thursday’s incident has carried on into Friday on some routes have been disrupted.
