Edinburgh officers close M8 in both directions following collision
Edinburgh motorists are being advised to find alternative routes after the M8 was closed in both directions between junctions two and three.
Capital officers[1] have said that the busy road was forced to be closed following a crash that took place at around 5.10pm on Saturday November 4.
Traffic Scotland have reported that the M8 Westbound at junction two remained closed as of 5.40pm and that emergency services were at the scene.
They warned that traffic continued to build in the area and advised that motorists approach with care.
Several blue sirens could be seen blaring on the M8 in video footage shared with Edinburgh Live.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Police Scotland said: “The M8 is closed in both directions between junctions 2 and 3 due to a crash which was reported to police around 5.10pm.

“Drivers are urged to use alternative routes.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.10pm on Saturday, 4 November, 2023, we were made aware of a single vehicle crash on the M8 westbound near junction 2, Newbridge.
“Emergency services attended and the male driver of the van was taken to hospital.
“The road reopened around 6.10pm.”
