East Lothian street closed with giant hole in the road after adverse …

An East Lothian[1] street has been closed while repairs on a hole in the road continue.

This comes after erosion along the coastline, following adverse weather[2] conditions. Engineers have been repairing Lamer Street in Dunbar, though it is unclear when it will reopen.

According to residents[3], as gas main for some homes on the street has been temporarily closed off with temporary heat and hot water equipment supplied.

A resident in the area said: "Lamer Street has seen breaches near the Cromwell Harbour and more significantly near Coastguard Cottages. Engineers have been on site and effecting repairs..

"The road will remain closed until the hole is repaired and the sea wall checked for stability. A gas main has temporarily been closed off to some homes but Scottish gas confirm that all homes affected will be supplied with temporary heat and hot water equipment if required."

This comes after adverse weather conditions have battered coastal areas across East Lothian.

East Lothian Council Countryside Rangers said: "Several beaches in East Lothian have suffered huge amounts of erosion, leaving high and unstable dune fronts. These include Belhaven Bay, Ravensheugh, Broadsands Prestonpans, Morrisons Haven and Aberlady. Please take care when visiting these beaches.

"There are also many damaged pieces of infrastructure, missing steps etc, as well as exposed or damaged pipework on beaches. We are working through a long list, but will undertake repairs as soon as we can.

"We apologise for any inconvenience."
