Dramatic moment BMW is rammed by police on M6 after rush hour chase

A BMW was smashed into by police following a terrifying chase along the M6.

The driver, a man from Manchester, was eventually arrested after failing to stop in Warrington[1], before then leading police onto the M56 and the M6 before he was forcibly brought to a stop in the middle of the carriageway. The motorway was closed northbound at J20 just before rush hour, with a slip road also closed amid the police incident.

There were huge delays for a number of hours before the suspect, 33, was taken into custody following the dramatic scenes, MEN reports[2].

Dramatic footage, shared to social media site TikTok by user @chris_thefella, appears to show the moment the police swarmed the motorway and surrounded the convertible BMW.

At the start of the video police are seen weaving in and out of traffic on the M6 to try and reach the BMW convertible. An unmarked police car smashes into the side of the BMW - which then crashes into a marked police car on the other side.

A second unmarked police car then smashed into the drivers side of the car, causing it to spin. A total of five police cars then surrounded the vehicle with officers being seen running over to the car.

Officers can be seen sliding down the bonnets of their own vehicles to get closer to the BMW.

Cheshire Constabulary said the man was arrested "for a number of offences" as drivers were asked to avoid the area.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At around 3.30pm on Wednesday 8 November, officers attempted to stop a vehicle on the A49 near Stretton, Warrington. The vehicle, a black BMW convertible, failed to stop and made off onto the M56 and then onto the M6.

"Police subsequently stopped the vehicle near to junction 20 of the M6 northbound and the driver, a 33-year-old man from Manchester, has been arrested for a number of offences."
