Devastated Edinburgh dog walker makes heartbreaking discovery in …
The SSPCA[1] are investigating after two dead puppies[2] were reportedly found in a river near an Edinburgh hospital.
The grim discovery was made by one dog walker near Liberton Hospital[3] on Tuesday morning at around 10am as they found the puppies alongside a pet carrier in the water at Ellen’s Glen.
The witness says they approached from Lasswade Road and found the puppies just before Liberton Hospital and alerted the SSPCA. When they returned at 3pm, there was reportedly only one puppy and the pet carrier.
However, returning for a third time, they discovered both puppies as a rescuer took them in her van to the SSPCA. The distraught witness said: “We had a look around with a torch and found the second pup under some leaves on top of the flood barrier.
“My teenage daughter had to climb over and pick the deceased pup up. Was so sad. The pups were small – not newborn, maybe eight weeks or so, dark coloured and I’d say looked like chihuahua or Jack Russell type breed.
“We also found a purple Kong dog ball in the water. Seems like they were dumped where we found them as further up the water there is a wall and there is no way the carry case could have got past that.”

The animal welfare charity have since confirmed that the incident is being investigated and they can not divulge any more information at this time.
In August, we reported how seven black puppies were abandoned by their owner in West Lothian. The discovery was made in Bathgate by a concerned member of the public as the SSPA issued an appeal for information.
