Cotswold council by-election triggered as civic chief steps down
A Cotswold District Councillor Clare Muir has resigned for personal reasons triggering a by-election. A former group captain in the RAF[1] and the authority's Armed Forces champion, Cllr Muir represented Lechlade, Kempsford and Fairford South ward and was only first elected in the elections last May.
Council leader Joe Harris ([2]LD, St Michael's) thanked Cllr Muir for her service over the past few months and said she has been instrumental in standing up for the military. “I’d like to say a huge thank you to Clare for her service over the past few months.
"She’s been a superb ward councillor and in her short time at the council[3] she’s been instrumental in standing up for members of our armed forces. In a few weeks we’ll be considering a report which will look at how the council can better support veterans and Clare was instrumental in bringing it about.”

“I know that this is a decision which she hasn’t taken lightly, Clare has had an unforeseen change in personal circumstance and it’s the right decision for her. I know she’ll remain an active member of our community and I look forward to working with her in future.”
A by-election will be held on December 14 to fill the vacancy.
