Leicestershire Police say they received the report at 3.54am today, with Sturdee Road initially shut by emergency services . Officers attended where it was found damage had been caused to an ATM which was outside the front of the premises.
Damage had also been caused to a door at the premises. It is believed an amount of cash has been stolen from the machine.
A pensioner living nearby said she heard the sound of breaking glass and crashing noises this morning. The woman, who did not want to give her name, said: “I did hear a noise but I didn’t get up to look because I’ve just had an operation on my leg – and there’s always something going off with drunks banging around out there.”
