Boyband East 17 to perform at Rugby Christmas lights switch-on in …

Boyband East 17 will be performing at the eagerly anticipated Christmas lights switch-on[1] in Rugby[2]. Terry Coldwell, Robbie Craig and Joe Livermore will hit the stage on Sunday, November 19.

East 17 became one of the most popular boybands of the 90s and had several chart-topping hits. It was their best-known anthem ‘Stay Another Day’ that catapulted the group to fame after the song became Christmas number one[3] in 1994.

Fans will now have the chance to watch the pop sensations at The Benn Hall on Newbold Road. CoventryLive[4] understands that the event will take place from 12pm to 6pm and has been organised by Rugby First and Rugby Borough Council[5].

Organisers say the event will have a host of live entertainment, food and a funfair, making it the perfect way to get ready for Christmas[7]. Activities will take place on North Street, Church Street, Market Place, Regent Street, Henry Street, Albert Street and Bank Street.

Linda Lowne, Rugby First Business Manager, said: “Our Christmas Light Switch-On is one of the biggest annual events in Rugby[8], and we are delighted to welcome East 17. Thousands of people come into the town to enjoy the event and provide a much-welcomed boost to the town centre economy, through shopping, eating and drinking.”

Tom Kittendorf, Rugby Borough Council[9] Chief Officer for Leisure and Wellbeing, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming thousands of people to the town for the Christmas Lights Switch-On, and with East 17 performing at the Benn Hall after the event, visitors can make a night of it and start the festivities with a bang.”
