Amazon van crashes into lamp post on East Lancashire Road

An Amazon lorry driver was taken to hospital after a crash.

Emergency services were called to East Lancashire Road late[1] on Wednesday, November 1. Police report that the Amazon truck had crashed into a lamp post and that no other vehicles were involved.

The man, in his 50s, was taken to hospital[2] after suffering injuries described as serious. The road was closed for around 10 hours, from midnight, while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Officers were urging people to avoid the area[5] of Liverpool Road, East Lancashire Road and Millfield Lane East (Manchester bound) while accident investigation work took place throughout the morning of Thursday, November 2. The road has now reopened.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "We are appealing for information following a road traffic collision yesterday evening, Wednesday 1 November, on the East Lancashire Road in Haydock. At around 11.40pm we received a report that a man, in his 50s, driving a truck was in collision with a lamp post. No other vehicles were involved.

"Paramedics took the man to hospital where he is receiving treatment. Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam DM @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting reference 1134 of 1 November."
