A66 Bassenthwaite closed due to ‘jackknifed HGV’ | News and Star

This is according to a report on Cumbria Road Watch, which said the incident happened at around 6.50am today (November 21).

It is believed that the road, the A66 Westbound near Bassenthwaite, will soon be open.

Information posted on the AA Roadwatch website said: “Road closed due to crash on A66 both ways from Thornthwaite turn off to Dubwath turn off.

“Closure runs alongside Bassenthwaite Lake.

“Traffic is coping well.”

A spokesperson from Cumbria Constabulary said the incident was reported to them at around 1.35am this morning.

The crash involved one vehicle – a lorry – which collided with a wall and hit a tree, causing the road to be blocked.

They added: “The Westbound carriageway is closed while recovery takes place, and the Eastbound carriageway has one lane open.

“We would advise motorists to take alternative routes where possible as the road could remain closed for some time.”

There are no serious injuries reported.

As of 1pm, the road remains closed.
