A38 updates as road closed to recover lorry after crash

Commuters in Derbyshire faced severe delays on Wednesday (November 1) after a road traffic accident. An crash on the A38 southbound between Alfreton and Ripley[1] blocked the road for around two hours at rush hour.

There was more disruption on Wednesday night as the road was again closed for the vehicle to be recovered. National Highways said at 8.30pm that the closure southbound was likely to be in place for three to four hours during the "complex" work.

The incident was first reported around 8.45am this morning (Wednesday, November 1). The road was blocked and traffic was stopped and later reopened.

However on Wednesday night National Highways said: "The A38 in Derbyshire is closed southbound between the A61 (Watchorn Roundabout) and A610 (Hartshay Interchange) for recovery of a lorry following a collision earlier today.

"The lorry left the carriageway and struck a tree at approx. 08:20 this morning. Recovery is now on scene but it is likely to be complex and protracted. The road is likely to be closed for at least 3/4 hours."
