Works to repair Balloan rail bridge suspended ahead of Storm Babet

A section of Culloden Road in Inverness will be temporarily reopened to traffic after work to repair a railway bridge was put on hold, Highland Council has confirmed.

The local authority has confirmed that works will be suspended from tomorrow (October 19) until Monday October 23, in a post on X, formerly Twitter, earlier today.
The post from Highland Council said: “Works by Network Rail Scotland at Balloch railway bridge, Inverness to be suspended from 7am on Thursday October 19 until 7am on Monday October 23, 2023.
“The road will be open to traffic during this period.”
Culloden Road in Inverness was due to be closed for five weeks to enable Network Rail to make repairs to Balloch railway bridge.
The work impacted a section of Culloden Road from Viewhill, just before the access to the Scottish School of Forestry, to where Edgemoor Park meets Culloden Road.
This vital work was needed to address water ingress issues on the structure and to undertake masonry repairs to a wall underneath the bridge.
Work on the structure started on Wednesday October 11 and was planned for completion by mid-November.
