Woman arrested after M62 closed by police

A woman has been arrested after the M62 was closed by police on Sunday.

Officers were called to reports of concerns for the safety of a woman on a bridge on Sunday, October 1. All traffic was stopped in both directions of the motorway[1] from junction 10 M6 J21A (Croft Interchange) to junction 11 A574 Birchwood Way (Birchwood).

Police report that the woman came down from the bridge shortly after 9pm. A 55-year-old woman was then arrested[2] at the scene on suspicion of causing a public nuisance. She remains in police custody currently.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: “Shortly after 8pm on Sunday 1 October police were called to reports of concerns for the safety of a woman on a bridge over the M62[5], in Birchwood. Officers attended the scene and the road was closed as a precautionary measure.

“The woman came down from the bridge shortly after 9pm. The 55-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing a public nuisance. She remains in custody at this time.”
