Warning as huge hay bale fire pumps out ‘high volumes of smoke’
Residents in an area of Boston[1] have been told to keep their windows closed after around 9,000 hay bales caught fire on Sunday (October 29). Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue were called out to Kirton Holme during the early hours to attend a fire involving multiple hay stacks.
The fire service, including crews from Boston, Kirton, Market Rasen, Donington, Spilsby and Leverton attended at just after 1am on Sunday. Eye witnesses reported on social media that the fire could be 'seen for miles.'
The fire service confirmed there has been 'upwards of 9,000 hay bales currently involved.' Sharing an update on Facebook, the service said: "Residents in the vicinity of Kirton Holme, Boston are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to high volumes of smoke in the area. We were called out in the early hours of the morning to a fire involving multiple hay stacks on Holme Road, Kirton. There are upwards of 9000 hay bales involved."
And in a further update posted on social media, the fire service warned: "Residents in the vicinity of Kirton Holme, Boston are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to high volumes of smoke in the area. The incident is still ongoing."
