Urgent police appeal after horror Somerset crash involving skip lorry

Police have issued an urgent appeal for wittnesses after a man was left critically injured after a crash with a skip lorry in Somerset.

A man, in his 20s, was driving a black Volkwagen Golf which collided a with stationary DAF lorry, which was stationary while it was delivering a skip onto a residnential driveway in Frome yesterday (Friday, October 19).

Residents in Rodden Road, where the incident happened, raised the alarm with Avon and Somerset Police and a road closure was set up and remained in place until around 8pm[1]. The family of the man are being supported by police.

A police spokesperson said: "We’re appealing for witnesses and footage after a collision in Frome which has left a man in a critical condition in hospital. It happened on Rodden Road, Frome, just before 9am on Thursday, October 19. A black VW Golf was in collision with a black DAF skip lorry which was stationary while delivering a skip onto a driveway. The driver of the Golf, a man in his 20s, went to hospital where he remains.

"His next of kin are aware and being supported. Our thoughts are with them. The driver of the lorry, a man in his 50s, was released from hospital after treatment. The road was closed until about 8pm while collision investigators examined the scene, and pending recovery of the vehicles.

"Were you in the Rodden Road area at the time? Did you see either vehicle in the moments before the collision?

The lorry driver, a man in his 50s, was also taken to hospital but has since been released following treatment. An appeal for information has been issued by police, who are particularly keen to hear from anyone who has video footage of the crash.
