Two people have been taken to hospital after a crash involving a truck, car and bicycle in North Tyneside[1].
Police were called to the Tyne Tunnel Estate at around 11.15am on Thursday to reports of a collision. Paramedics were sent to the scene, with one person taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary[2] (RVI) and a second person taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. Their condition has not been revealed.
Firefighters were called to the scene and found one vehicle was on fire, and extinguished the blaze. Emergency services remained at the scene throughout the afternoon as an investigation got under way, with the road closed to traffic.
Northumbria Police[3] is appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.
A force spokesperson said: “At around 11.15am on Thursday police received a report of a collision involving a car, a lorry and a bicycle on High Flatworth in North Tyneside, near to the junction with Second Avenue.
“Emergency services are currently in attendance at the scene where the road is closed, and local diversions are in place. Two people were taken to hospital for treatment.
“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who saw what happened, or has dashcam footage, is asked to contact police using the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or call 101 quoting reference NP-20231026-0354.”
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We dispatched two ambulance crews, one crew from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and one doctor. One patient was taken to RVI hospital and another patient was taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital.”
A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Upon our arrival one of the vehicles was on fire and that has been extinguished by crews.”
