Travel chaos for Edinburgh passengers as services pulled and …

Edinburgh rail[1] passengers are facing cancellations and delays on Sunday, after flooding on the line.

Heavy rain has caused issues at Bathgate[2], causing the signalling system to “short-circuit”. In a series of tweets, ScotRail[3] confirmed replacement buses were in place.

They also confirmed tickets would be accepted by “any train” as well as Edinburgh Trams. No trains will be running from Bathgate until the “floodwater has receded”.

Posting to X/Twitter, Network Rail said: “Heavy rain has flooded the railway at Bathgate and has also caused the signalling system to short-circuit in the area.

“No trains will be able to run until the floodwater has receded.”

ScotRail added: “Due to flooding at Bathgate, we can’t run trains between Bathgate & Edinburgh.

“Trains are running okay between Helensburgh & Bathgate. We’ve not got replacement transport between Bathgate and Edinburgh Park yet.

“Tickets can be used on the Shotts line if that helps.”

They told one customer: “No services going to Edinburgh as the line is flooded, some trains are trapped on the wrong side of the flood.”

Following up shortly after, they added: “We’ve got replacement buses on the way to Bathgate station and Edinburgh Park station, they’re expected around 1.50pm.

“Please use any train or Edinburgh Trams (your ticket will be accepted) to get between Edinburgh city centre and Edinburgh Park.”
