Trains cancelled and lines blocked between Newcastle and Morpeth
Trains between Newcastle[1] and Morpeth[2] have been cancelled, with disruption expected all day as emergency repairs are carried out.
All lines are blocked between the city and Northumberland[3] town, with all Northern[4] services running through the two stations cancelled.
Services are being disrupted due to structural damage to the viaduct in the Cramlington[5] area, with Network Rail engineers saying ‘significant’ repairs are needed. The first train affected was the 8.30 from Newcastle to Morpeth, before the 9.03 return journey was also cancelled.
All services between the two destinations will also be cancelled until further notice.
Road transport has been requested, with a limited number of vehicles on hand to help people reach their destinations. These come in the form of 16-seat services by iTravel NE, Jet Cars and Compare Minibus.
