Tragic teen killed in Leeds Ring Road crash named and pictured

A teen who died in a devastating crash in Leeds, which left two dead and another fighting for their life, has been pictured.

Polite Moyo, 18, was one of two teenagers who died in the crash on the Ring Road, in Moortown[1], at 3.30am on Friday, September 29. A 19-year-old woman was also pronounced dead at the scene.

A third teen, an 18-year-old man who was a passenger, is critically ill in hospital intensive care. A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, following the incident on the A6120 after a white Audi A3 left the road and hit a telegraph pole[2] near the junction of Parkside Road.

Floral tributes have been left at the scene of the crash. One includes a note addressed to “Mayar and Polite.” A GO Fund Me page has also been set up following Polite’s tragic death. It reads: “Hi all. My name is Prince Moyo and I as well as family and friends have lost the kindest, most loving soul Polite Moyo.

“My wish is to give him the best possible send off that he deserves. Any donations would be greatly appreciated, thank you.”

The GoFundMe has already raised more than £8000 – it had an original target of £5000. One contributor said: “He was a very nice and respectful boy and I hope this helps his family. I remember all the New Years we spent playing xBox with all the other guys.”

Another wrote: “I donated because I knew Polite and I saw him as my older and little brother. He lived up to his name and always put a smile on everyone’s face. He was that one bright shining star on a clear calm night.”

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said at the time of the crash: “Police are investigating following a road traffic collision in Leeds in which two people died and one person was left critically injured. At 3.28am on Friday morning, police were called to the collision on the A6120 Ring Road at the junction with Parkside Road, Meanwood. A white Audi A3 had left the westbound carriageway and collided with a telegraph pole.

“An 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, an 18-year-old man, was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition. A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A scene and road closure are in place and officers from the Major Collision Enquiry Team are investigating the incident.”
