Tragedy as man, 28, dies in crash with tanker lorry near M6

A man has died following a fatal crash with a tanker lorry. Emergency services were called out to the A38 in Sutton Coldfield – close to the M6 Toll – at 10.30pm last night.

Officers say that sadly the driver of the BMW was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile the passenger, a 19-year-old man, was taken to hospital ‘with injuries not believed to be life threatening’.

The Sutton Coldfield Bypass was shut off for a number of hours as an investigation got underway. Officers with West Midlands Police are now appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

Collision investigators say the collision involved a tanker lorry and black BMW 140i car. Police say the lorry driver is ‘assisting with our enquiries.’

Meanwhile road closures have now been lifted. Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the force’s serious collision investigation unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the friends and family of the man who has died and we have a family liaison officer in place to support them. If you have dashcam or mobile footage or know any information about what happened then please contact us.”

Anyone with information should call West Midlands Police on 101 and quote 5100 of October 27. Alternatively e-mail the collision investigators on [email protected].
