A major road in Cheltenham remains closed this morning (October 4) more than 10 hours after a fatal crash. Tewkesbury Road was shut in both directions shortly before 9pm on Tuesday, October 3, with emergency services at the scene.
At the time of writing, the A4019 is still closed from Centrum Park roundabout, near KFC and McDonalds, and the Kwik Fit further along the road. Gloucestershire police said the road is likely to remain closed through the morning rush hour.
Police said a man in 50s riding a motorbike died in a collision with a Honda Civic. The incident happened at the A4019 Tewkesbury Road crossroads with Brook Road at around 7.40pm.
The eyewitness said: “Police have it taped off from Travis Perkins to the Audi showroom I didn’t witness it I was there a few minutes after I’m not sure if another vehicle is involved but I heard from other people that there was.” Another witness reported that Gloucestershire Police officers were at the crash site, with a fire engine and ambulance.
Gloucestershire Police said in a statement given yesterday: “There was a serious two-vehicle collision at the A4019 Tewkesbury Rd crossroads with Brook Rd at around 7.40pm tonight. Road closures will be in place for some time while we carry out enquiries. We can’t issue further info yet but please follow diversions while closures remain.”
The busy road has since reopened as of around 12.30pm this afternoon (Wednesday, October 4).
