Terrifying moment a truck almost causes a head-on collision
Wild footage has emerged of a truck narrowly avoiding a head-on collision after travelling down the wrong side of a city tunnel and swerving past oncoming traffic.
The dashcam footage was captured by a couple as they drove along Sydney[2]'s WestConnex tunnel at Haberfield, in the city's inner-west, on Sunday night.
They immediately become panicked as the truck barrelled towards them and appeared set to collide head-on with their vehicle.
The couple and other vehicles travelling in the right direction were lucky to dodge the wayward truck, with no reported accidents at the time.
NSW[3] Police confirmed they are investigating the incident and have since located the Isuzu truck pictured in the footage.
A man can be heard in the car saying 'what's this guy doing? (It) looks like he's driving on the wrong side of the road' as the truck rapidly approached them.
A silence falls over the car for a short second before a woman in the car screams and the driver lays on the horn as they quickly swerve to the right to avoid the oncoming truck.
Dashcam footage from the rear of the vehicle shows the truck driving down the slip road in the direction of a van.
The van was lucky to have been passing an emergency stopping bay as the truck swerved to avoid the collision.
By the end of the footage, the driver of the truck appears to swerve back onto the road and continue driving in the wrong direction.
The footage was posted to social media where numerous users commented on the truck driver's erratic actions.
'How can you possibly get in the tunnel on the wrong side?' one user wrote.
'NSW drivers man, (you) can’t trust them on the road,' a second wrote.

NSW Police confirmed investigations into the incident are ongoing.
They have located the vehicle involved but are still searching for the driver.
A spokesperson from Transurban, who oversee WestConnex among other toll roads across Australia, said their focus is on the 'safety of the tens of thousands of motorists' who use the motorway each day.
'Driving the wrong way against traffic is incredibly unsafe and it could end in tragedy,' the spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.
'The signs on approach to the WestConnex tunnels and the WestConnex motorway network are very clear but unfortunately some drivers are ignoring them and putting themselves and others at risk.
The company has a team of people monitoring their motorway network through 'hundreds of CCTV cameras across each motorway' around the clock.
'Transurban’s automatic incident response cameras can detect someone or something that shouldn’t be on the motorway, and the team can send incident response crews out within minutes,' the spokesperson said.
'Transurban’s traffic control rooms work with emergency services, first responders and the Transport Management Centre to keep you safe on the road.'
