Teenage cyclist seriously injured in crash involving bike, car and lorry
A teenager was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a collision involving a car, lorry and bike in North Tyneside[1].
The 15-year-old was riding a bike on the Tyne Tunnel Estate when the crash happened at around 11.15am on Thursday.[2] Paramedics, police and fire were called to the scene, with one person taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary[3] and second to the Northumbria Emergency Care Hospital.
A Northumbria Police[4] spokeswoman said: “A 15-year-old boy who was on the bicycle was taken to hospital for treatment, with serious but non-life threatening injuries. He remains there in a stable condition. Enquiries are ongoing.”
The second person reportedly didn’t suffer serious injuries.
Firefighters were called to the scene and found one vehicle was on fire, and extinguished the blaze. Emergency services remained at the scene throughout the afternoon as an investigation got under way, with the road closed to traffic.
Northumbria Police[5] is appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.
Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who saw what happened, or has dashcam footage, is asked to contact police using the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or call 101 quoting reference NP-20231026-0354.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We dispatched two ambulance crews, one crew from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and one doctor. One patient was taken to RVI hospital and another patient was taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital.”
