SWR weekend disruption as trains skipping stations and rail …
Rail lines and train stations across Surrey will be shut this coming weekend, with rail replacement buses implemented which will impact those using public transport. Maintenance work will be undertaken in the Haslemere[1] area, and also further north in the Feltham area too.
Work in the Haslemere area will commence on Saturday, October 21, and will carry on through till Sunday October 29. People commuting into London from Haslemere, and also heading to Portsmouth and Petersfield could also be impacted.
According to South Western Railway, trains from London Waterloo to Haslemere and Portsmouth will terminate at Guildford[2]. There will be buses between Guildford and Petersfield passing through Haslemere. From there, a revised service via train will be organised between Petersfield and Portsmouth Harbour.
Lines in Feltham will be closed on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 October, which means services from London Waterloo to Reading will be revised. With hourly services and replacement buses, the closure will impact several different routes.
Trains from Clapham Junction and Virginia Water will be diverted and will not stop at Vauxhall. However, trains will stop at Wimbledon, Surbiton, Weybridge[3], Addlestone[4] and Chertsey[5].
Additionally, an hourly service will run between Staines[6] and Reading, with trains heading to Windsor only stopping at Staines and the end destination. Buses will replace rail between Twickenham and Staines, and also between Hounslow and Staines.
London Waterloo trains heading to Woking[7] via Staines will only be stopping at Staines, then Woking, skipping all stations in between. Then during the afternoon and evenings, trains from London Waterloo to Kingston[8] via Hounslow will not be running.
On Sunday October 22, other parts of Surrey will also be hit with closures and revised rail services. Trains from London Waterloo to Dorking[9] will not run, with buses being sent between Wimbledon and Dorking via Epsom[10] instead. There will also be buses between Wimbledon and Leatherhead[11] via Epsom. London Waterloo trains to Chessington South will not be in operation, with buses instead from Wimbledon.
If replacement buses are reduced or cancelled, or you have booked a ticket and are unable to travel, you may be eligible for a refund. Those who have found themselves in this situation should reach out to South Western Railway.
Some people may not be able to travel via rail replacement, and if disruption made travel considerably longer or it wasn’t possible to get to the desired destination, a claim may also be made.
Those who have a season ticket, can use the delay repay if there is severe disruption. Refunds are usually given without the administration fee. Make sure to apply via the South Western Railway and have receipts and tickets to hand.
