Railway line closed as person hit by train near Peterborough

A railway line was closed and services cancelled after a person was reportedly hit by a train near Peterborough[1].

National Rail Enquiries revealed services between Horsham and Peterborough and London Kings Cross and Peterborough were cancelled in the early hours of Sunday, October 29. It came after a person was reportedly struck near to Hitchin.

Passengers were reportedly told they would have to get off at the Hertfordshire station where they would be redirected. No details about the person involved in the incident have been released.

A National Rail Enquiries spokesman said: “We regret to inform you that a person has sadly been hit by a train. This means that the 22:25 service from Horsham to Peterborough and the 00:18 London Kings Cross to Peterborough service will both terminate at Hitchin.

“Alternative travel will be provided from Hitchin towards Peterborough. If you are due to travel on either of these services please speak to station staff at Hitchin for alternative travel.”

Meanwhile a ThamesLink spokesman added: “A person has been hit by a train between Hitchin and Peterborough. As all lines are currently closed, trains may be cancelled or delayed until the end of service.
