Rail strikes grind Britain to a halt: Maps show where Aslef and RMT action will cripple commuters from today with Tube walkout bringing London to a standstill for three days
- Aslef strike will affect services at 16 train operators across England tomorrow
- RMT walkout will affect London Underground tomorrow, Thursday and Friday
Rail passengers across Britain face further strike misery over the coming days as two unions take industrial action that will leave parts of the UK with no services.
Workers belonging to train drivers’ union Aslef at 16 train operators will walk out tomorrow – Wednesday, October 4. Aslef is also carry out an overtime ban this week that began on Monday, October 2 and will finish on Friday, October 6.
Operators affected by Aslef’s action are Avanti West Coast, c2c, Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, Gatwick Express, Great Northern, Great Western Railway, Greater Anglia, Heathrow Express, Island Line, LNER, London[2] Northwestern Railway, Northern, South Western Railway, Southeastern, Southern, Stansted Express, Thameslink, TransPennine Express and West Midlands Railway.
The Rail Delivery Group warned operators will try to run as many trains as possible but there will be wide regional variations, with some running no services at all.
Services on some lines could be hit this evening on Tuesday, October 3 and the morning of Thursday, October 5 because rolling stock will be in the wrong depots. It follows an Aslef strike last Saturday[3] which had a major impact on UK services.
Separately, members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT[4]) will walk out on the London Underground[5] both tomorrow (October 4) and this Friday, October 6.
Most Tube services will not run on both days, with disruption expected into the mornings of Thursday, October 5 and Saturday, October 7 as the network recovers.
UKHospitality estimates strike disruption over the past year has cost the industry £3.5billion in lost sales – a figure which it said will rise further due to extra strikes.
As the long-running rail dispute over pay, jobs and conditions continues to impact passengers, MailOnline has looked at how the next strikes will affect your journey.
