Popular Kent pub closes for ‘six-figure’ refurbishment with new jobs …
A popular pub in Whitstable is closing its doors next week while a major six-figure refurbishment is carried out. The Wheatsheaf, on Herne Bay Road, will reopen to the public as a Greene King Pub in early December.
The venue will undertake a refurbishment to both its inside and outside, to give it a “new look and feel throughout”. Customers can expect a brand-new menu when it reopens this winter, the pub confirmed.
The pub is also running a competition on its Facebook page to find ‘Whitstable’s local hero’, who will have the privilege of cutting the ribbon on the grand opening night. Those wishing to nominate an individual, can do so on the pub’s Facebook page.
General Manager of The Wheatsheaf Andrew Vaughan said: “The whole team is so excited for the Wheatsheaf to undertake this major refurbishment, and we can’t wait to reopen just in time for Winter!
“The revamp will bring a revived atmosphere to the pub, and we’re confident that with our improved facilities we’ll be proud to offer our guests an even better drinking, dining and social experience.”
The pub will close on Monday, October 30 and is set to reopen in early December. This investment will provide a number of job opportunities to the local community and is recruiting for a variety of positions., the pub claims.
The pub boats a solid rating on TripAdvisor. A recent review gave it 5 stars. It reads: “The staff were so helpful. We asked for changes to the vegetarian dish and it was not a problem and they catered for our every need. All the staff were so friendly as well. Would definitely recommend paying the Wheatsheaf a visit.”
However another person said they felt it has ‘gone downhill’, but agreed the staff were very welcoming They said: “Very disappointed after our last visits, burger was lovely but chips were barely warm and same for onion rings. We returned after awhile away to much better food but unfortunately things have gone back downhill. Saying that the staff are really nice.. “
It is hoped that the major refurb will give the pub a new lease of live and the staff are excited to welcome customers back once it is complete.
