Police bust city centre cannabis factory yards away from major grow

Police[1] busted a city centre cannabis factory just yards from where officers had been dismantling a major grow. And a 21-year-old has been jailed following the bust on Hanley's[2] Regent Road.

The discovery on Sunday came days after officers had found more than 2,000 plants on nearby Paxton Street which cops had valued at around £2.4 million. As reported by StokeonTrentLive[3] officers remained at the disused warehouse where they were seen dismantling the grow days after the initial discovery.

Now the force has confirmed that another set-up was discovered on nearby Regent Road on Sunday where almost 100 plants were found. As a result defendant Gersian Gjoka has now been jailed.

The 21-year-old, of no fixed address, appeared at North Staffordshire Justice Centre where he pleaded guilty to producing class B cannabis. He was sentenced to six months in prison.

No arrests have yet been made on the Paxton Street enterprise. That discovery represents the second time in just over a year where a grow has operated on that particular road.

Staffordshire Police have busted this cannabis factory on Paxton Street, in Hanley

StokeonTrentLive reported[6] in April last year how around 1,400 plants were found in a building on the street. Meanwhile the recent busts in Hanley mark a number of cannabis factories being found in the city in the last few days.

It marks another cannabis factory found in the city in the last few days. StokeonTrentLive reported[7] how on Monday night officers found 143 plants inside a house on Burslem's[8] Evans Street.

Detectives say there has been a growth in 'large-scale' grows being set up in terrace houses. An investigation into the Evans Street discovery is ongoing and witnesses are asked to call the force on 101 and quote incident 699 of October 3.
