Plymouth ‘cut off’ by train strikes today – all you need to know

Plymouth rail passengers hoping to travel on trains today are being urged only do so if ‘absolutely necessary’ as strikes are set to halt all bar one set of services into the city. CrossCountry Trains say none of its service will be running, while Great Western Railway (GWR) are all set to be operating at reduced services today.

As a result, no rail services are running on the main railway lines into Plymouth, either from Cornwall or from Devon. No trains will be running between Plymouth and Exeter St Davids – with services on the main line only running as far as Bristol Temple Meads from London Paddington.

The only service operating to and from Plymouth on Wednesday is one branch line. Services will operate between Plymouth and Gunnislake

GWR will be running an extremely limited serviced between 7am and 6.30pm. Services that are running will be very busy and the train company says customers may wish to travel on other days if they can. CrossCountry Trains says none of its service will be in operation today (October 4). Passengers should only travel if their journeys are absolutely necessary due to ASLEF union strike action.

If you intend to travel where trains are operating, please do check both outward and return journeys.
