Person pulled from sea near Llandudno Pier in major rescue operation
A person was taken to hospital after being pulled from the sea near Llandudno Pier. A major rescue operation was launched after the casualty was spotted “in peril” in the water around 200m away from the pier.
Llandudno’s lifeboat was launched while the Wales Air Ambulance landed on the promenade at North Shore beach. Police officers, paramedics and the coastguard were also at the scene.[1]
A Llandudno RNLI spokesman said the Dr Barbara Saunderson lifeboat was launched at around 11.24am today. They said: “The volunteer crew of three were asked to search and locate a person who had been seen in the sea approximately 200 metres off Llandudno Pier.
“The D class inshore lifeboat made exceptionally good time in very challenging sea conditions to reach the casualty as quickly as possible. The crew were then able to make a recovery from the water and provide first response casualty care.
“Returning to shore the lifeboat met the emergency services located at the Old Slipway on Llandudno Promenade. The casualty was transferred into the care of paramedics before being taken to hospital.”

Lifeboat Operations Manager Marcus Elliott said: “This has been a very challenging service in which our volunteer crew performed their duties admirably in very difficult circumstances with the high winds prevailing offshore.” A Welsh Ambulance Service[4] spokesperson said: “We were called today (18 October) shortly before 11.30am to reports of an incident on North Parade, Llandudno[5].
“We sent one emergency ambulance and one Cymru high acuity response unit paramedic to the scene, where we were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance. One person was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd for further treatment.”
A North Wales Police[6] spokesperson said: “We were in attendance at Llandudno Pier this morning in response to a concern for safety incident.” Emergency services did not confirm how the person ended up in the water.
