National Highways confirmed just after 2.30pm that the motorway had reopened in both directions around Taunton.

But it warned there would still be delays between 60 and 80 minutes.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said:’The M5 is closed at junction 25 (Taunton) following a collision involving a pedestrian and a lorry that happened at about noon today (Sunday 22 October).

‘An air ambulance has landed at the scene to take the injured pedestrian to hospital.

‘The road reopened at about 2.40pm but motorists are advised there are delays in both directions.

‘We’d advise motorists consider an alternative route at this time, while emergency services respond to this incident.’
