Pedestrian airlifted to hospital after being hit by lorry on M5

A pedestrian has been airlifted to hospital after being hit by a lorry on the M5 in Somerset. Traffic ground to a halt at around midday this afternoon (October 22) as traffic monitoring service Inrix reported a police incident, which closed the motorway in both directions at junction 25 for the A358 (Taunton).

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police[1] told SomersetLive[2] the closure was in place due to a collision involving a pedestrian and a lorry. Drivers have been advised to take an alternative route.

“Police said in a statement: “The M5 is closed at junction 25 (Taunton) following a collision involving a pedestrian and a lorry that happened at about noon today (Sunday 22 October),” the spokesperson said. “An air ambulance has landed at the scene to take the injured pedestrian to hospital.

“We’d advise motorists consider an alternative route at this time, while emergency services respond to this incident.”.

According to Traffic England, traffic is at a standstill on the M5, with diversions in place via the entry and exit slip roads.
