One airlifted to hospital and arrest made as road closed after crash

Two people have been airlifted to hospital and a man has been arrested following a crash in the Highlands.

Emergency services were called to the A830, south of Aridaig, after receiving reports of a two-car crash at around 12.30pm on Friday.

Two people were taken by ambulance to Belford Hospital, Fort William, while another was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

Police confirmed that a 36-year-old man was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence following the crash.

Traffic Scotland confirmed that the road was closed in both directions at the junction for the Beasedale Rail Bridge.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.30pm on Friday, October 27, 2023, we were called to a report of a crash involving two vehicles on the A830, south or Arisaig.

“Two people were checked at the scene by Scottish Ambulance Service, two people were taken by ambulance to Belford Hospital in Fort William and one person has been taken by air ambulance to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

“A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

“The road is currently closed.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 12.36pm to attend a road traffic collision near the Beasdale Rail Bridge.

“We dispatched six resources to the scene, including an air ambulance, and airlifted one patient to Belford Hospital in Fort William and two patients via road to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.”
