Severe flooding has caused the partial closure of a road in Co Down.

Road users are advised that Lane 1 of the A1 southbound from the Hillsborough roundabout is closed, with the closure stretching past Hillsborough Castle.

Motorists have been urged to exercise caution on approach and allow extra time for their journey.

Meanwhile, contractors have been tasked to deal with a fallen tree on the M1 in Co Antrim.

The large tree is currently obstructing the inner lane of the M1 at Dunmurry, around half way between Junction 3 (Blacks Road) and the Applegreen services.

The Motorway Contractor has been tasked to attend the incident as a matter of urgency.

Meanwhile, police have closed the Portaferry Road in Kircubbin at its junction with the Inishargey Road as a number of flooding incidents continue to affect the area.

The PSNI have asked the public to avoid the area and seek an alternative route.

Meanwhile, NI Trafficwatch has advised there are a high number of flooding incidents across the Bangor, Ards and north Down areas and have advised road users to be cautious.

Police earlier advised motorists to reduce speed and drive with extra caution due to the wet road conditions.

"Persistent heavy rain has resulted in surface water and flooding of roads in many areas,” they said.
