Newcastle to Morpeth trains cancelled for emergency repairs
Railway[1] services in both directions between Newcastle and Morpeth are cancelled “until further notice”, train operator Northern has advised. This is after extensive structural damage to a viaduct in the Cramlington area.

Network Rail engineers have attended and “significant” repair work is required before it will be safe for trains to operate in the affected area again.
The line is expected to be blocked until the end of the day on Tuesday (October 10).

Whilst all lines are blocked, a rail replacement bus service is in limited operation.
A number of vehicles have been recruited as follows:
- Newcastle – Cramlington – Morpeth at 09.45, 11.15, 15.15, 17.15, 19.15 and 21.15
- Morpeth – Cramlington – Newcastle at 09.05, 11.55, 13.55, 15.55, 19.00, 19.55 and 21.50
Each road replacement vehicle has 16 seats and services are operated by iTravel NE, Jet Cars and Compare Minibus, and journies are predicted to take 20 minutes longer than usual.
The first services affected this morning were the 8.30 from Newcastle to Morpeth and the 9.03 service from Morpeth to Newcastle.
