New North Shields bar and tap house aims to be ‘more than just a …

North Shields could become the home of a new bar and tap house if councillors give a green light to the premises next week.

Rablos Ltd has submitted plans to convert the property in Northumberland[1] Street, which is the former Dial Motor Co premises, into the Low Quay Brew Co brewery and bar. The proposed opening hours are Sunday to Thursday 12pm to 11 pm and Friday to Saturday 12pm to midnight.

According to the application documents, the company aims to "craft exceptional beers" and are committed to "sourcing the finest ingredients to create a diverse line up that caters to the varied tastes of our community".

It adds that it aspires to be "more than just a brewery; we want to be a gathering place, a hub where friends, families, and beer enthusiasts can come together to share moments, laughter, and, of course, exceptional brews".

The application has, however, generated some controversy with four opposing submissions made to North Tyneside[2] Council. Objectors have raised concerns about the mixed-used industrial setting of Northumberland Street, noisy patrons, traffic issues and safety implications.

One submission requested the council consider restricting the bar’s opening hours, ensure the installation of noise-cancelling insulation, and reduce the number of evenings the bar can operate, for the sake of residents.

North Tyneside Council’s licensing committee is set to hear and decide on the application on the morning of Monday, October 30, at its Cobalt HQ.
