Met Office issues rain warning across already flooded North East
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain across the North East, after several areas were already hit by floods.
The alert from the forecasters says there is a chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses across the North East and parts of Scotland, as the rain continues without let up.
The warning was put in place at midnight and will run until 3am on Monday and covers Durham, Gateshead[1], Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Newcastle[2], North Tyneside[3], Northumberland[4], Redcar and Cleveland, South Tyneside[5], Stockton-on-Tees and Sunderland[6].

- There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
- Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
- Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life
- Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible
- Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- Some communities may be cut off by flooded roads
- Possible power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses

The Met Office say: “After recent very wet weather, further heavy rain is expected to affect Central, Eastern Scotland and Northeast England. Many parts of the warning area will see 20-40 mm of rain, whilst the wettest spots, most likely from Stirling and Fife northwards into Angus and Aberdeenshire, could see 50-80 mm, and isolated 100-120 mm on the mountains.
“The rain will ease slowly from the north from Sunday afternoon and night. In addition, on Sunday, strong winds with gusts 50-60 mph are also probable along exposed coasts of northeastern and eastern Scotland.”

Today:
“Rain, heavy and showery at times, will affect the region Sunday, with a risk of thunder. Becoming increasingly dry toward the south, with some brighter intervals, especially later in the day. Winds mostly light. Maximum temperature 12°C.”
Tonight:
“Rain across the north through the evening. A largely cloudy night ahead with outbreaks of rain and drizzle arriving from the southwest during the early hours. Minimum temperature 4°C.”
Monday:
“Starting generally cloudy with outbreaks of rain or drizzle. Becoming increasingly dry and bright through the day with a risk of isolated showers later. Winds largely light but feeling cold. Maximum temperature 9°C.”
Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:
“Cloudy with outbreaks of rain or showers Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds strengthening Wednesday. Strong winds and heavy rain or showers likely arriving on Thursday. Feeling cold.”
