Man seriously hurt after he’s trapped under digger that fell off lorry …
A man has been left seriously hurt after becoming ‘trapped’ under a digger that fell from a HGV in Bury[1].
Police officers, fire crews and paramedics were called to Spring Street[2], near the Asda supermarket, just after 8am this morning (Friday). Eyewitnesses said the air ambulance also landed nearby.
Police said officers responded to a ‘workplace accident’ while fire crews said they rescued a man who became ‘partially trapped’ under the digger. The man suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries, a Greater Manchester Police[3] spokesperson added.
Pictures taken at the scene this morning showed a digger on its side within the police cordon next to the Asda car park. A HGV was also pictured within the tape.
The supermarket remained open as normal. In a statement, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just after 8am on October 6, 2023, one fire engine from Whitefield and Bury fire stations as well as a technical response unit from Ashton[6] were called to an incident on Spring Street in Bury.

“The incident involved a man partially trapped under a tractor, which had fallen from an HGV. Fire personnel used specialist equipment to free the male who was then taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service.
“Crews were in attendance for around one and a half hours.”
The Health and Safety Executive and the North West Ambulance Service have also been contacted for a comment.
